The PMP Application can be a very challenging exercise for several reasons including, but not limited to:

• It requires very specific and detailed information;
• It is done for projects in the past for which you may not have complete records - if any;
• And you may not have had PMP training prior to managing your projects therefore mapping them to the various process groups and knowledge areas would be challenging.

Don't be disheartened! Others have done it and so can you.

If you are thinking of applying for a Project Management Institute (PMI) certification such as the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or the Project Management Professional (PMP), you should consider the following steps:

The CEH Program

A friend of mine sat and passed the CAPM exam in December 2010. I asked her to share a few tips that others could use. She said the following resources were useful, in addition to the PMBOK:

4. Information Technology Project Management by Kathy Schwalbe

She also offered the following advice: "They should get enough sleep the night before the exam as I found it a challenge sitting for 3 hours to work 150 questions... basically after the first hour I was exhausted... so rest is a must."
